Design Approach
PWA’s first home, a garden office, was conceived to be a design lab for exploring construction techniques and finishes with special attention to light and color. The office served as an educational
tool to introduce clients to the firm’s design aesthetic and to the value of green building practices.
The workspace is flooded with natural light, has radiant floor heating in the concrete slab, large venting windows and skylights for plenty of fresh air, and dramatic views to the drought tolerant garden. Other green features include the use of plywood and OSB products for trim, shelving, cabinetry, and as finished flooring and ceiling surfacing. The fluorescent light fixtures were fabricated with corrugated fiberglass and simple hardware.
