Reimagine a single-family parcel for intergenerational living

Design Approach

A 2-car garage is transformed into a backyard casita for mom to age in place, steps away from her daughter and grandkids. Vaulted ceilings and ample daylight from windows and skylights make a small home feel much larger than it is. A tranquil garden, patio and covered outdoor area (a new trellis trained with vines doubles as a shaded dining area or extra parking space) are developed as settings for family meals or simply to enjoy the outdoors.
